Hi. My name is Matt.

I’ve been building digital things for more than a decade. Over the years I’ve come to realize that those doing it best understand their users best, awesome content drives awesome experiences, and adaptability is one of the best skills you can have.

User Experience

Define. Design. Build. Improve. (Repeat.)

Top-notch experiences are built from a deep understanding of your users. You gain that understanding by talking to your users. Continually. “Talking” with them can mean interviews, observation, or usability testing. Involving them during the design + build stages is ideal.

Disciplines:

  • User Research, Usability Testing, Information Architecture, Interaction Design, UI Design

Development

Bring It to Life.

Front-end development is how I got started building digital solutions. I’ve been writing HTML, CSS, and Javascript my entire career. I pride myself on learning the languages and best practices that allow me and the teams I work with to prove the best possible solution for the end user’s needs.

Languages:

Leadership

Set Direction. Then lead the charge.

I’ve spent the past 10+ years leading teams of some of the most talented designers and developers in town. I have helped grow teams 5x, while modernizing team capabilities. I’ve led cross-disciplinary teams, including developers, designers, project managers and third-party vendors. I strongly advocate and actively participate in leading change.

  1. Start with a Vision
  2. Develop Capabilities to support it
  3. Establish that Change as part of the Culture
Education

Never Stop Learning.

I read as much as I can (currently: The Industries of the Future and Sense and Respond). I gain perspective from others. I challenge my beliefs and unlearn dated practices when necessary.
